I am grateful for a cusston of yard work done today. I’m okay to have a day without yard work tomorrow, though!
I am grateful for neighbours who will be moving back into their massively renovated house across the street soon. I’ve missed having those guys around.
I am grateful for family fun night in the afternoon: Cooper’s pick, we went to see a Guardians of the Galaxy matinee. It was fun, and we all loved it, though in hindsight I question the wisdom of taking Farley to see that one. He did like it though!
I am grateful for some time spent at the studio this morning.
I am grateful for time watching Coop at his Karate class. That kid is giving it his all. Great to be there for that.
I am grateful for our garden, coming along nicely with lots of work done by Julie and a friend today.
I am grateful for a first today – A neighborhood buddy of Coop’s came by on his and asked if Coop wanted to help him with a lemonade stand. Coop obliged, and Julie watched the two kids bike away, sans adult. Didn’t see that coming today, but there it was.
I am grateful for Farley’s pal Trevor and his Mom – they showed Farley a great time pn a trip up to French Beach today.
I am grateful for the Benedict Cumberbatch BBC Sherlock Holmes series. That there’s some great TV Julie and I enjoyed tonight.
I am grateful for a fun bike ride with the boys on the back to get them where they needed to go this morning.
I am grateful for the chance to be in the Art Victoria Now show. The opening was tonight. I am very humbled by the quality of the work in the show – there’s some really, really great stuff in there.
I am grateful for a chance to rub shoulders with a very talented and well established artist (cough, George Littlechild, cough cough), and for a few tidbits of advice he threw out for a painter who is just starting out, like myself.
I am grateful for a good chunk of time in the studio tonight. It’s been too long, and it felt great to be in there.
I am grateful for a productive day in the garagenous zone. I’ve been busy in there, and missing painting, but coding is fun too.
I am grateful for an afternoon at Cooper’s school with Farley. It will soon also be Farley’s school – it was “Introduction to Kindergarten” day. I remember doing that with Coop; he stayed close the whole time. Not so with Farley. He walks around there like he owns the place. I can’t believe both my boys are so darn big.
I am grateful for a night out with Julie. We went and saw Maudie; we both really enjoyed it.
I am grateful for a productive day in the garagenous zone.
I am grateful to my in-laws who gave Farley a big Lego airplane. It’s a big set, and he really wanted it. He worked hard putting it all together, and he was really, really proud when he finished the whole thing.
I am grateful for time spent with my boys tonight. While I was making dinner, Coop was being a great helper with Farley’s Lego airplane set. He was receptive when Farley was getting upset because Coop wanted to take it over. I asked him not to touch Farley’s airplane – I told him the best thing to do to help was to help him find pieces and lend some advice when Farl asked for it, but that Farley should be the one to stick all the pieces together. He did just that like a champ. If that’s not nice, what is?
I am grateful for that Farley kid. He’s 5 now. Imagine that.
I am grateful for some days spent camping in Goldstream Park.
I am grateful for Farley’s friends and their families. They are just the kind of people who you’d want at a Birthday Party of 23 souls at a campground where the heavens opened and the rain fell in a torrent. Kids played, hot dogs were roasted, smores were devoured, and after the rain stopped the water guns came out just to make sure everyone got soaked anyway. It was the best worst case scenario ever.
I am grateful to my spouse, who is the mother of my children, and I am grateful for my mother, too. Mothers loving their children is a big slice on the great pie chart of goodness in the world.
I am grateful for my folks, who flew out here and treated us to dinner after our sojourn in the woods, and then again tonight, this time to also shower Farley with gifts, after taking him to the bakery and aquarium in Sidney.
I am grateful for Coop, who wanted me to take him to the dollar store tonight so he could spend his own allowance on birthday presents for his little brother. It was his idea, and it warmed my heart with pride to help him with that.
I am grateful for time spent fixing up a bike for Farley today, and then later watching him excitedly ride it up and down the street.
I am grateful for time spent in the studio. It’s been too long. It was cathartic to be in there. I am grateful to Julie for making that possible.
I am grateful for dirt. I dug a bunch of dirt today and put it into a raised bed I built on the weekend. Dirt, dirt, dirt!
I am grateful for productive time spent in the garagenous zone, and for deadlines met.
I am grateful for an evening out with Julie. We just did errands, but we got a ton done, and going to Costco without kids is a whole separate experience from what we are used to.
I am grateful for the lumberjack sandwich from Save-On Foods that Julie brought me for lunch today. Those things are an amazing value. It was lunch for me today and will be tomorrow, and likely for the boys, too.
I am grateful for nice weather.
I am grateful for time spent tending the BBQ while Farley jumped on the tramp this evening.
