I am grateful for some time at the studio this morning.

I am grateful for some time hanging out with Coop. Nothing too special, just the library, then to the Sears closing out sale to buy him some pants.

I am grateful for time with Julie. It was date night. We saw The Foreigner, which was good enough, but not great, then we went to a thrift store, because we could. I bought a backgammon set; looking forward to seeing how the boys like it.

I am grateful for a walk to school with my lads.

I grateful for Farley’s special helper day. It means he gets to do a show and tell, and be the first in line to get to class, and to sit in a special chair at the front, and to hold Benjo, their class mascot frog stuffy. He was loving every minute of it.

I am also grateful for what he said when Julie asked if there was anything he thought we should talk about with his teacher at parent teacher interviews today. “Just tell her that I love her,” he said.

And I’m grateful for those interviews. We heard all the stuff a parent would want to hear.

I am grateful for a night out free of dinner making and kids. I went to the gym for the first time in a long time. Like, since there were podcasts, which I have to say, greatly improves the experience. Then I went to the studio, and painted until my eyes were bleary. That, right there is my idea of a good time.

I am grateful for walks to and from school today with my boys.

I am grateful for the 911 emergency service. It works. I tested it. I saw smoke, but there was no uncontrolled fire, as it turned out.

On the walk home, one street was thick with dark smoke. Turning the corner and walking halfway down the block, there was a house with the source of it. The smoke was pouring out of the chimney, way more than I would have thought a normal fire should. When I knocked on the door and no-one came, I called 911. As I continued home I could hear the sirens.

Later, I talked to a firefighter. He said when they showed up, someone answered the door and there was a clean burning fire in the fireplace. He said it was better to be safe than sorry, though, and that it was good that I called. Seemed like much ado about nothing, but I figure if it were my house, or my parents’ house, I’d hope someone would call.

I am grateful for time at the studio.

I am grateful for a good long while playing spot-it with my kids before bedtime.

I am grateful for a lazy day. It’s been a while since our family had one of those.

I am grateful for time spent with Coop getting his Halloween costume together.

I am grateful for time spent reading stories to Farley and rubbing his back at bedtime.

I am grateful for Carnivale. It’s an older HBO series that I never got around to watching at the time, but I’m on the 3rd episode and I’ve been enjoying it.

I am grateful for time at the studio. Farley was with me for some of it, doodling up some fine puppy dogs and painting a rainbow, and being a sparkling conversationalist.

I am grateful for date night. Julie and I went to the Sidney Fine Art show for a while, then we saw The new Blade Runner movie. It was great!

I am grateful for a walk to school with my boys.

I grateful for a productive morning.

I am grateful for time at the studio.

I am grateful for family fun night: Farley’s pick. We went swimming with friends, and a great time was had by all.

I am grateful for a screening of the 1982 Blade Runner movie with Julie after the kids were in bed, in preparation for the new one We hope to see soon.

I am grateful for news that my painting sold at the Sidney show tonight. There’s no feeling like hearing news like that!

I am very grateful for time quietly working at the quiet studio this morning. After 6 days in a minivan with 2 kids, it was a welcome change of scenery.

I am grateful for a productive day.

I am grateful for an evening taking in an eclectic collection of terrific art at the opening of the Sidney Fine Art show. I’m honoured and humbled to be a part of it.

I am grateful for Fort Langley. It’s a great little spot to stop by if you are passing through. There’s the National Historic Site, which is great, but also a good collection of eateries and cool stores in quaint old buildings to walk around and check out.

I am grateful that we made the 5pm ferry.

I am grateful for that feeling of relief and the release of tension in the shoulders that comes with the drive off the ferry ramp.

I am grateful to be snug in bed, with my family delivered safely home.
