I am grateful for my folks, who are in town, and picked up an online grocery order for us and delivered it to our home mere hours before we were set to arrive back. Nice to come home to a full fridge, and a bunch of tulips in a vase on the kitchen table.

I was grateful for them again, when they were able to take the kids and show them a good time at a park and then the library for a couple hours this afternoon.

I am grateful for an action packed day of the Disneyland train, Astro Blasters, It’s a Small World. the Finding Nemo Submarine Ride (especially with Farl, who LOVED that ride), Star Tours, the Jungle Tour, Tarzan’s Treehouse, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Star Wars Launch Bay (especially with Julie, who LOVED meeting Chewbacca), Autopia, the Submarine ride again, and churros.

It was so much fun, that pausing for a photo was enough to make Farley a bit sad.

I am grateful for Coop, who cracked me up with the question, “Why is it called Tomorrowland? What’s so great about it being Tuesday in there while it’s Monday here?”

I am grateful for a day of safe travels to Anaheim, California.

I am grateful for clear skies over the Rockies.

I am grateful for Target, where you can buy shoes for your 5 year old at 11pm after realizing halfway through the first flight down that he’s wearing heavy rain boots, and that’s the only footwear he has that fits properly for your trip to Disneyland in warm, 25-30 degree weather.

I am grateful for a “how to draw” book that I had when I was a kid, that Farley really discovered and got into today.

I am grateful for a car full of packed bags, all set for us to hop in and drive to the airport when the alarm goes off in a few short hours.

I am grateful for a phone conversation with an old friend from long ago this morning. I was a Scout, and later a Venturer in my younger years. The Scouter was a guy named Tracey, who had a profound and positive effect that lasted many years after I was too old for the scouting program. We were in touch into my 20s, maybe even some of my 30s, but we hadn’t talked for a long time. It was good to hear his voice this morning.

A new year’s resolution of mine has been to get in touch with people I remember having strong personal connections with in my past, but for whatever reason, haven’t spoken with lately. Facebook friendship is great in many ways, but it presents me with an illusion that I am in touch with people that I haven’t connected with in a real conversation for many years. I have too many people who are too dear to me that I haven’t talked with in too long. I made a list. I’ll be reaching out. Feel free to get in touch with me first if you feel you are someone who belongs on it.

I am grateful that at last a big secret Julie and I have been keeping is out. We revealed to the boys when they got home from school today via a game of hangman that they would be going to Disneyland all next week. We decided to go back in September, but really wanted to surprise them. They were indeed surprised, and we’re all pretty excited!

I am grateful for a productive day on all fronts but painting. I missed that today, but really, I am also grateful to be someone who just doesn’t have much they need to complain about.
