I am grateful for time spent painting in my living room with my kids this morning.
I am grateful for time spent skating with both my lads today; where they both started out the day hanging on to skating aids, and left having skated around for a good long while without them.
I am grateful for Farley, who built his own lego train car for his lego train set, then inspired his brother to do the same.
I am grateful for time spent with Julie plugging away on a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle for an hour or two this evening.
I am grateful for time in the studio this morning.
I am grateful for the film Spider Man: Intro to the Spider Verse. It was SO GOOD. 95th percentile good, IMHO. You might think you don’t want to see another superhero movie, but this one was really original. I’ve never seen a movie quite like it. Every frame of it was something you could frame and put on the wall over the fireplace. It was something to be behold, and the four of us beheld it, and in the eyes of this beholder, it was beautiful. Go see it, in the theatre.
I am grateful for some burgers, and then some blokus with my family this evening.
I am grateful for time spent with my lads at bedtime.
I am grateful for brunch with neighbours from 4 addresses on my street, at the house across the road this morning. Coop and I went. It was nice.
I am grateful for time spent painting in my living room while my boys played there too.
I am grateful for time spent playing baseball (or some analogue thereof) with Farley in the backyard today.
I am grateful to be there to celebrate a friend’s 40th birthday party, and in particular for the catered Thai food they had.
I am grateful for a movie I saw with Julie, while we had someone looking after the kids anyway. We saw Mule, which, like other Clint Eastwood directed films, was pretty much what I expected and was solidly good but not great. Just what I was in the mood for, though.
I am grateful for some time in the studio this morning.
I am grateful for leftovers. O man, I love leftovers.
I am grateful for a boardgame with my boys tonight – we played blokus; which we received from my brother and his family, and it’s a great game.
I am grateful for time spent with those guys at bedtime.
I am grateful for Boxing Day. All the hype around Christmas is fun, but it’s nice to exhale and relax the day after.
I am grateful for a walk on the beach at the Esquimalt Lagoon, where we met up with family friends. Coop had the metal detector he received as a birthday gift this year. Farley found a fishing weight with it, and Coop found a spent brass cartridge casing from what appeared to be a fairly large and old bullet. We were right near Fort Rodd Hill, perhaps it was from when the area was a military base. Fantastic treasures!
…Which makes for a good segue to the rock tumbler I received as a gift from Julie. I also found some rocks at the beach that I am now polishing. I am grateful for all that too. More treasures!
I am grateful for time spent with Julie watching Downsizing, the 2017 film. It was quirky and good. Not great, but I liked it for its oddballness.
I am grateful for excited kids this morning.
I am grateful for the cinnamon buns Julie always makes for Christmas morning.
I am grateful for neighbours to go carolling for and then with.
I am grateful for friends who could make it over for dinner tonight, and for the turkey and all the trimmings.
I am grateful for Coop, who can hold his own just fine in a conversation full of grown ups. I love watching these kids of mine grow up. I feel honoured and privileged to get to do so.
I am grateful for time spent reading with Farley tonight, and for the whispered statements of “Merry Christmas” and “I love you” that we exchanged before I left him to fall asleep.
I am grateful for friends and neighbours. The two groups are not mutually exclusive, just to be clear.
I am grateful for time spent watching my kids play laser tag at Summit Park, with a few other kids from our neighbourhood.
I am grateful for a fabulous dinner of appetizers with Auntie J in attendance.
I am grateful for her gift of a crokinole board, and then a few games of it. We’ll make good use of that!
I am grateful for all the excitement and anticipation that Christmas Eve brings to a household with a 10 and 6 year old in it.
I am grateful for a fine Christmas Eve Eve.
I am grateful for time spent skating with my lads at a charity fundraiser family skate friends of ours organized.
I am grateful for time spent at Butchart Gardens, walking around and seeing the decorations and lights, going on the carousel, and bumping into folks we know.
I am grateful that we managed to get most everything under control so that we can relax tomorrow and the next day, and hopefully just enjoy the holiday to the fullest.
I am grateful for the Christmas Panto we saw at the Roxy Theatre this afternoon. It was the inaugural one put on by Atomic Vaudeville, and I very much hope it comes back next year. If it does, we’ll be there with bells on!
I am grateful for butter chicken that Julie made this evening. It was requested by Cooper, for his pick on family fun night.
I am grateful for a canvas I had ready to go and water soluble oil paints Julie gave me as a gift for Christmas last year, because it was great having a painting to distract me while Cooper’s other plan for this evening, Hotel Transylvania 3, screened in the living room.
I am grateful for time spent reading with Farley tonight.
I am grateful for time in the studio this morning.
I am grateful for lunch with Julie at Zanzibar, which is a great restaurant, if you are ever out on the peninsula.
I am grateful for this blog. It helps me know what my priorities are.
I am grateful for time spent with my neighbours this evening, eating pizza and letting our kids run rampant.
I am grateful for Coop, who read a book to their youngest today, It was sweet.
