I am grateful for a month’s long artist residency at the Victoria Doubletree Hilton Hotel, and for a month with my work on a good portion of wall at the Central Gallery in Bay Centre, downtown. Both have been great opportunities for me.
I am also grateful for time spent today at the Gage Gallery Artist Collective. Today was my last shift sitting at the gallery. It is a great group of talented artists that run that place, and it’s been a real pleasure to get to know them and be a part of it over the last 8 months.
I am also grateful. as these 3 commitments end, for a simpler schedule for me.
I am grateful for the start of a new artist residency at the Hotel Grand Pacific. I was there last year in August, and it was an enjoyable and successful month. The people there are friendly, and I very much enjoyed reconnecting with a few of them this afternoon. Where I set up in the lobby is a great space, and I am looking forward to filling it up with my artwork and painting there for the month of August.
I am grateful for time on the floor making lego train tracks with Farley this evening.
I am grateful for 47 trips around the sun. 47! On past birthdays, I’ve felt crappy about getting older. 40 was a tough one for me. On this one, I am just feeling gratitude for the happenstance and luck that has enabled me to do so this far – get older, that is.
I am grateful for a phone chat with an old pal that I haven’t spoken with for a while who called me up to wish me a happy birthday.
I am grateful for the sale of a painting today at the Central Gallery.
I am grateful for sushi this evening with family and chosen family.
I am grateful for a peanut buster parfait themed ice cream cake that Julie made me.
I am grateful for time at the gallery and the hotel painting. It’s been too long since I’ve done that. Looking forward to doing more in the coming weeks.
I am grateful for neighbours willing to let us use their laundry machines; ours is on the fritz and is awaiting warranty service.
I am grateful for Coop, who prepared dinner tonight all on his own with a recipe he’d never made before. It was a French dip beef sandwiches with mushrooms and peppers, with oven baked fries on the side, and it was delicious.
I am grateful for a peek at the Summer Camp my kids are attending today. I got to see it when I drove up to drop Farley off, because we managed to miss the bus this morning. That part, I am not grateful for.
I am grateful for a fine time painting today at the gallery and the hotel.
I am grateful to be in bed at a reasonable hour. Hopefully tomorrow morning will go smoother.
I am grateful for time spent working on my bicycle this morning doing some overdue maintenance; replacing the chain and the cassette. It was easy. There’s not much to a bicycle. Considering how much utility I get out of that thing, it’s amazing what a simple machine it is.
I am grateful for kids who were pretty good co-operators about cleaning up the living room this morning.
I am grateful for time spent on the same living room floor playing with lego with those guys, spreading it everywhere, and undoing all our good tidying work.
I am grateful for an urban hike we took to Uptown Mall to run a few errands. On our way there we exchanged pleasantries with acquaintances on a street not far from home. When we got to our destination, we read books at the library, and we dined on tacos from a taco stand. We got Coop the shirt he needed. On the way home, we were beckoned in to visit with friends who are neighbours that live on that same street, and enjoyed a drink on their patio while our kids played together. It would have been a 5 minute drive, and was instead a much longer walk, but made a quick trip to the mall into a social neighbourhood experience; the kind I could use more of.
