I am grateful for a family friend who loves our kids, and wanted to have them over for a few hours this afternoon. This afforded us the opportunity to sort out all our presents we’ve been stashing around the house, and realize that a fairly critical one that we both thought had been delivered had not, and then go out and get a replacement. I shudder to think of how it would have worked out if we discovered this later. Christmas is saved!

And speaking of Christmas, I am grateful for the creche bequeathed to me that once belonged to my great-grandmother. I am not particularly religious, but I grew up going to church, and it was fun to open it up and show this to the lads and chat about the nativity story.

I am grateful for a screening of the 1947 classic, Miracle on 34th Street. It’s been a few years since I’d seen it, but it was pretty good, there in a room full of family members in Santa hats, a Christmas tree with presents under it, and with the fireplace going.

I am grateful for a couple hours painting in the studio today.

I am grateful for Farley’s Christmas Concert, Because I just can’t get enough of little kids singing their little earnest hearts out, particularly mine.

I am grateful for an easel bequeathed to me by a fellow artist who is downsizing. I’ve been thinking about buying something that would be good for plein air painting; now all I have to think about is maybe trying some plein air painting.

I am grateful for time spent with Cooper at his scout meeting tonight. They went to the Boardgame Cafe, where I didn’t feel like as much of a nerd as I sometimes do when I am out in public in my scouter uniform, and where the scouters played an intense game of Oh Snap, which is really very suitable for little kids, but also works well for the mid-life crowd.

I am grateful for time spent futzing in the garage a bit, and for a day that took some twists and turns, but in the end, did not leave me regretting spending some time futzing in the garage a bit.

I am grateful for Caffe Fantastico, for letting me show my work there. This is the third time, I think, that I’ve had a show there, and again it’s been a great opportunity for me.

I am grateful for the chance to see a play with Julie this afternoon, kinda spontaneously. It’s called Every Brilliant Thing, at the Belfry, and it only runs for a few more days. If you can, you should get a ticket and GO!

I am grateful for my kids. Parenting is often difficult, often rewarding, often tedious, and often gratifying. At times, it is all of those things and more, all at once. My kids bring significant meaning to my life, often when I least expect them to.

I am grateful for a nap I accidentally took in a waiting room while Farley was at an appointment this morning. I took the opportunity to work on my laptop, and woke to find a fairly coherent spreadsheet that I was working on that ended with a cell containing the text, ‘dddddffffgggggg’. I did not expect to have this nap, but I woke up refreshed , and I don’t think anyone was the wiser.

I am grateful for a good long while painting in the studio today.

I am grateful for a dinner party with friends tonight. Kids frolicked. Traditional Trinidadian food was prepared by our hosts, and, and holy cuss, was cussing delicious as all heck. Pardon my language.

I am grateful for a good chunk of time spent in the studio this morning.

I am grateful for the opportunity to co-curate a group show for the third year in a row with Barb McLeod, who is as talented and professional as she is friendly and generous with her knowledge and experience.

I am grateful for Farley’s Cub meeting, where he made a fine Christmas wreath.
