I am grateful for a family outing to the Christmas display on tuxedo drive last night.
I am grateful for another family outing today, this time to pick up a second hand Lego set Farley wanted to buy that he found in a classified ad, then for Vietnamese takeout in the car before a walk on the Ed Nixon trail. It was fun.
I am grateful for hamburgers, generally, but also specifically, the one I made for dinner tonight.
I am grateful for Cooper’s patience and perseverance. Tonight we figured out how to play a fairly complicated card game I bought the other day.
I am great for season 3 of Westworld. Julie and I finished that off tonight.
I am grateful for a hike at P’kols today with another family..it was good to get the stink of the house off of us, and good to see kids run around like kids. It was also gratifying to find my ankle worked just fine on some steep, rocky terrain.
I am grateful for the waffle iron I got for Christmas. Making waffles for my kids is fun.
I am grateful for a few hands of Hearts with my family this evening.
I am grateful for a double header of Westworld episodes with Julie this evening.
I am grateful for the means to have kids spoiled rotten with a gratuitous pile of gifts under the tree this morning. In this age of Covid, there’s a lot of things we can’t do, but this was one of the things we could do, and it was wonderful to watch them open them all up.
I am grateful to be able to video conference with family today. It’s not as good as being there in person, but nice to feel like I’ve seen and talked with them on this holiday.
I am grateful for a great Christmas dinner; the turkey, and all the fixings.
I am grateful for our tradition of caroling our neighbours, and for the kind of great neighbours we have, the kind we’d want to carol for in the first place.
I am grateful for time spent watching telly with Julie after the kids were down, and things were a bit more quiet.
I am grateful for the sighting of the Jupiter and Saturn conjunction, time spent delivering cards and treats tot friends and neighbours, and for rotis from Trini to da Bone yesterday.
I am grateful for the discovery of Fraserview Meats, right here in Victoria. We used to enjoy the original location on Fraser street in Vancouver when we used to live there, nearly 15 years ago. Their marinated tandoori chicken is something special.
I am grateful for a lazy Christmas Eve, appetizers for dinner, and a zoom call with my extended family this evening.
I am grateful for matching Christmas jammies.
I am grateful for time spent getting kids down to bed, reading them Twas the Night Before Christmas.
I am grateful for time spent at Summit park with my lads, finding a hill to go sledding. There was limited snow, but there was success. It was fun to watch them revel in it.
I am grateful for some rigging that Cooper and I participated in making in an effort to help Julie assemble our gingerbread house, to hold it in place while the icing that holds it together solidifies.
I am grateful for time spent working on a jigsaw puzzle with Cooper and Farley while listening to the Radiolab for Kids podcast feed.
I am grateful for a trip to the museum, where there is currently an exhibition of Emily Carr paintings and drawings. It was fantastic to see. I hope to get there again before it’s gone. All 4 of us went, and all 4 of us enjoyed it.
I am grateful for snow. It usually comes to Victoria every winter, and usually goes away within a few days. That’s the perfect amount of snow in my book. The kids were eager to frolic in it, and made a snowman this afternoon, and named him “Old Joe”. Seemed fitting; Wise beyond his years.
I am grateful for the solstice. it feels like a day we can all turn the page. The days get longer from here until summer, and hopefully in a better year, with less Covid and more social proximity.
I am grateful for a screening of Die Hard in our living room this evening. It holds up fairly well, I’d say. I think the last time I saw it may have been in the theatre when it came out, in 1988.
I am grateful for time spent painting this morning, putting actual paint on an actual canvas, for the first time in too long!
I am grateful for a boardgame with Farley this afternoon.
I am grateful for time spent decking out my studio with some lighting this afternoon.
I am grateful for tickets to screen a live performance of the East Van Panto in the comfort of our home this evening. Seeing that is a tradition for us, and it was nice to be able to keep that up, albeit in our living room.
I am grateful to be inside my snug warm house. It is stormy, windy, raining and cold outside.
