I am grateful that Cooper kid came into our lives, and I am grateful for the opportunity to throw that kid a birthday party today. It was at a swimming pool that we went to a lot when he was a toddler, and I had to watch him like a hawk or he’d drown himself in two shakes. Now he’s a big galoot, as are his friends, and while I a was nearby in the pool, I was at a good distance the whole time, and they just romped around like they owned the place and had fun. He’s a great kid, and he has great friends, and it was nice to be there and happy for him, watching from the hot tub, learning that he and his pals would be just fine even if I wasn’t there at all.
I am grateful for my folks, who took Farley to Dinolab, where he got to help remove dirt from a triceratops skull. He had a ball, because that’s just the kind of thing he’s keen to do. They gave him a fossil to take home there, and he can’t wait to look at it under a microscope. This is something he told me while we were looking at the moon through the telescope he recently purchased with saved up allowance money. The universe is an open book for that guy.
I am grateful for an evening spent curling, because curling is a fun game, and it’s good way to be part of a team and be distracted from everything else in life for a couple of hours.
