I am grateful for a day spent with 4 kids in the morning (mine and 2 more), and none in the afternoon. Friends of ours had kids out of school this week too, and their dad hatched the plan to swap them out over a day. I took them to the museum, and fed them PBJ’s. It was fun. The only photos I got were when they were in front of computers, because most of the rest of the time the 4 were off in 4 different directions, but we covered every squaee inch!

I am grateful for an afternoon of getting errands done, and spending time in the studio, while the crew was out on a hike with the other dad.

I am grateful for an evening spent at their place, eating delicious food and lounging in the hot tub. Fun times!

I am grateful for a day with kids, AND stuff getting done. This rarely happens concurrently.

I am grateful for lunch with Julie and the boys. She was working, we went downtown to meet up. We had burritos from Taquisa. They were delicious.

I am grateful for a moment when Coop had to wait for me while I picked up meds from the pharmacist. “Well,” he said, “I guess I’ll just go read about babies.”, and he picked up a brochure about babies, and sat and read said brochure about babies. This whole reading thing. It’s quite something.

I am grateful for Farley, who composed a song about why he loves sticks today. Spoiler alert: it’s because he loves bugs, and bugs live in sticks.

I am grateful for a post-Christmas visit with good friends this afternoon.

I am grateful for quick work made of the big chore of buying a new stove today.

I am grateful for a fun swim with Julie and the boys.

I am grateful for Chinese dinner out tonight.

I am grateful for time spent reading and snuggling those kiddos down for the night.

I am grateful for an hour or so of TV.

I  grateful for a day of simple pleasures, which are really the best kind, IMHO.

I am grateful, very grateful, for a day that played out like this: Julie and the boys dropped me off at the studio, then left to visit with friends, then picked me up 4 and a half hours later. That might be the longest I’ve ever been in there. I nearly completed a 24″ square painting. It was sublime.

And I am grateful that she remembered the BEST CHRISTMAS GIFT EVAR! She had forgotten she ordered it way back in October, and hid it under the bed, but today presented me with my R2-D2 themed French coffee press. How cool is that?

Julie is batting 1000 today.

I am grateful for a cozy Christmas Day at our house. Presents, brunch, tantrums, a walk to the park, phone calls to relatives, turkey, stuffing, candles, all the things.

I am grateful for time spent reading, and facilitating Lego assembly with Farley and Cooper.

I  grateful for time spent with Julie after the kids were down.

I am grateful for a low key Christmas Eve. We had a lazy morning and afternoon, decorating cookies and doing some Christmas crafts.

I am grateful for a trip to Butchart Gardens tonight.

I am grateful for tortiere. Julie acquired it from a bakery close by. It was terrific.

I am grateful for stockings hung by the chimney with care, and children nestled all snug in their beds, and all that good stuff.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Active Pass, 40″ by 30″, Acrylic on Canvas

The ferry from Vancouver to Victoria goes through Active Pass, a relatively narrow passage on the trip. You enter it after coming through open water, as you start to trace your way through the gulf islands. I often feel like I’ve arrived home as we get to this part of the trip. The geography becomes familiar, and the proximity of the islands provides a sense of shelter.

Prints will soon be available here.

I am grateful for reindeer food that Farley brought home from daycare. Should come on handy tomorrow. Whatever we can do to stay on the nice side of the Claus, especially this time of year.

I  grateful for lunch with a friend today. Good to catch up.

I  grateful for time in at the studio.

I am grateful for family fun night: Julie’s pick. Snacks, and all of us in the living room for a screening of “The Rise of the Guardians”. Great movie, that.

I am grateful for a deadline met, a website launched, and weight off of my shoulders. It’s been a bit of a stretch of lots of work with not much play lately; it’s been nice to relax.

I am grateful for time spent at the studio.

I am grateful for time spent with Cooper checking out his new lego-compatible robot he received from his grandparents.

I am grateful for time spent rocking with Farley when it was their bedtime.
