I am grateful for lots of time in the studio today.

I am grateful for a kid-free night at home with Julie. We watched movies and ordered in Chinese food. We have time on our own without the boys every now and then, but never at home. It felt like we were in our early 30s again.

I am grateful those jokers are coming home tomorrow. Nice to have a break, but I’m missing having them around.

I am grateful as all heck for my in-laws, who came and visited over Christmas (which really made it great), and left to go back across the Georgia Straight today and took our two kids for two whole nights! I miss those fellas, but the silence in this house is novel and enjoyable, too.

Grateful for an easy day around the house. Kids playing with Christmas toys, having extended family around, eating leftover turkey, playing board games, and then chit chatting until the 500 piece jigsaw puzzle is finally completed at nearly 2am. If a Boxing Day like this isn’t nice, what is?

I am grateful for one of the best Christmases in my memory of all time.

Kids euphorically opened gifts, we made snow people, grandparents came, we visited with neighbours after serenading them with carols, and we had a feast that featured a turkey I prepared that was so dang good, I am not even a little timid to tell you of how proud I am to have prepared it. It was a really, really great day.

I am grateful that I was able to get some time in at the gym and studio this morning.

I am grateful for a morning showing of the new Star Wars movie we all took in today. It was highly anticipated, and did not disappoint.

I am grateful for an evening taking in the lights and displays with the rest of the crowds at Butchart Gardens. This has been a tradition for us for a while.I still remember the first time we went; Cooper was only 2 and a half weeks old, and I carried him in a baby carrier inside my big wool coat. That year, like this one, there was snow on the ground. I am grateful to have these memories, and look forward to making more.

I am grateful i was able to attend a celebration of life today. It was for a friend’s father. It was sad, but inspiring. I only met him once or twice, but he was a great guy, and it was too soon.

Which is why i am also grateful for every minute.

I am grateful for time spent with Julie this afternoon.

I am grateful for family fun night: my pick. We ate dinner out and went to a number of addresses on the Victoria Buzz Christmas Lighs Tour. It was really fun.

I am grateful for lots of time in the studio today. I got started on the biggest canvas I’ve ever painted. So far, it’s been fun.

I am grateful for Farley’s Christmas Concert. I saw the dress rehearsal for it yesterday because Julie couldn’t make it today, but Farley wanted one of us in the audience and I am only too happy to oblige. I love those things. Nothing makes me think all is going to be alright with the world than watching my kid in a school concert.

I am grateful it’s solstice. I look forward to days getting longer. We have a few traditions around solstice. We talk a bit about what was great about this year and what we hope for in the next, and we set up and light the candles in our Christmas angel chimes. This year we added a singing a few Christmas carols into the mix, too. It was nice while the kids were into it, and over as soon as they weren’t.
