I am grateful for time spent with another family camping at Goldstream. Hot dogs were roasted, smores were made and consumed, kids ran rampant, grownups talked grownup. They are good folks who are easy to hang out with. I am grateful for friends like that.
I am grateful for a deer sighting in our front yard. That’s a two edged sword, because while seeing deer is still novel enough for me, this one was eating our lilacs. I’ve aspired to get to a point where deer were a problem in my life, and now they are, so I guess I am grateful for that.
I am grateful for a successful walk I took around the campground tonight. Felt good to stretch my legs for the first time in a while.
I am grateful for Julie, who is doing all the things. Julie is awesome like an empty seat still next to you when the doors are closed just before a long flight.
I am grateful for a consult with the surgeon who did some work on my ankle a few weeks ago. The news was mostly good, the questions mostly answered, the road ahead is not as short as I’d like, but things are progressing nicely on the ankle front.
I am grateful for a phone chat with a buddy of mine.
I am grateful for a subway sandwich for lunch. That used to be a common staple for me, not so much anymore. Big treat!
I am grateful for a body able enough to prepare dinner this evening. I made tacos. It was nice to contribute meaningfully to the running of this household more than I have been lately.
I am grateful for family fun night: Julie’s pick. We played cranium. It was fun.
I am grateful for Julie, who is doing all the things, except for making tacos today, because that’s the one thing I did. She is awesome like figuring out how to crank out Mary had a little lamb on an instrument you’ve never picked up before.
I am grateful for the elementary school my kids have both been attending. Cooper’s last day of elementary was today. It was a great place for him. It was the last day for Farley, too, and it’s been a good year for him.
I am grateful for a celebration we had for Cooper and a few of his buddies and their families at a park today.
I am grateful for time spent painting.
I am grateful for Julie. She is awesome like a 20 minute nap in the middle of the day.
I am grateful for the time and opportunity to rest this ankle and let it heal as much as I have been able to.
I am grateful for a phone conversation with my brother today.
I am grateful for time spent watching part of A Marriage Story on Netflix, but man, it’s a sad movie so far, so it made me a bit sad. I have a feeling it doesn’t get better, but there is some great writing, acting, and directing in that movie. I see why it was nominated for best picture.
I am grateful for friendships my kids have. They were able to socialize with a good crew of their friends outside this afternoon, and I’m glad they are getting the opportunity to do so.
I am grateful for Lasagne that friends brought us tonight. It was really good.
I am grateful for Julie who is doing all the things. She is awesome like elementary school Christmas concerts.
I am grateful for oatmeal pancakes Julie made for breakfast, which we all ate together.
I am grateful for time spent with Farley watching YouTube episodes of Jay Leno’s garage.
I am grateful for the bits and pieces of time with Coop, who is hilarious. Also, I am grateful for his infectious newfound zeal for making stuff; he’s been working hard on a replica star wars blaster gun.
I am grateful for the supper Julie made, which we ate all together.
I am grateful for family fun night part 2, my pick. We watched the first half of The Empire Strikes Back, which is widely regarded as the best Star Wars movie. Not sure I’d agree, but it’s up there. We’ll watch the other half tomorrow.
I am grateful for Julie. She’s doing all the things and it’s hard to do all the things. I can’t really do any of the things right now, and that sucks. She’s doing all the things and I am grateful. She is awesome like seeing a hummingbird at the feeder outside our kitchen window.
I am grateful for an ankle that seems to need less painkillers these days.
I am grateful for Auntie J, who came and entertained and was entertained by my kids for a good part of the day.
I am grateful for family fun night, my pick! We ate a feast of Chinese food, then screened Make Believe, a documentary about teen magicians that was good, but was a little too slow to be as great as I’d hoped it would be.
I am grateful for leftovers in the fridge.
I am grateful for Julie, who is awesome like salt and pepper squid.
